I'm ok, you're ok
There are two people in the world that I feel really, really, REALLY sorry for right now.
The first is the Cubs guy. You know, the one who went for (what he thought was a) foul ball and ended up catching the biggest load of crap any Cubs fan has ever taken. People really need to get a life if they think that this one event triggered an 8-3 loss. You can bring up the chaos theory or the curse theory or any other bag of crap that you can think of and it still wouldn�t be this guys fault that the Cubs lost.
And shame on the newspaper for giving people his name and work place. I think they should get charged with endangering the Cubs guy�s life. He�s been getting death threats. DEATH THREATS. I�m a big hockey fan, but I wouldn�t resort to murder if some dope head cost the leafs the cup. I would definitely resort to hecklery and name calling, but not murder.
The other person is a poor Stanton Island ferry pilot who made the mistake of not taking his medicine. From what I read in the paper this morning, the ferry guy didn�t take his high blood pressure medicine and passed out at the wheel. When he came to, he accidentally jerked the ferry into high gear, right into the pier, killing at least ten and maiming a lot of others.
If this is really the case, then I couldn�t feel more sympathy for the ferry guy. I know that I would feel like10 pounds of shit in a 2 pound bag if I had that much wasted life on my conscious. I�ve passed out before due to low blood pressure, fortunately I was only hostessing in a restaurant at the time and there were no related tragedies. It could happen to anyone. It was a terrible accident.
And the fact that the ferry tried to off himself is clearly an indication to me that it was an accident. Just one of those things that happens from time to time that you don�t account for because it just never occurred to anyone to think that it might happen. Make the changes, make sure it doesn�t happen again, that�s all you can do.
In any event, I hope these guys get through this and know that there are people out there who don�t think they�re assholes.
